MOVING WITH MULTIPLE VEHICLES

If you and your spouse have more than one vehicle that needs to be transported to your new home then you have a few options. You may wish to both drive down to your new location or you may wish to place one or both of the cars on a trailer and drive down together or fly to your new destination. Whatever you decide will come down to your individual situation such as how much furniture there is and if you need to find accommodation during the move. Think about the costs and complications in all of your options when making this decision.

Driving Your Vehicles

The first option you have is to drive both of your cars down. If there are two of you, then you can both take one vehicle. The good thing about doing this is that you will know that your car is safe and sound. Another plus to doing this is that you will have both vehicles to carry your moving gear in which means you may be able to get away with a smaller moving van for your items.

However, you will also need to pay for fuel which can get expensive if you are driving a long way and you also will be driving the distance without your partner enjoying the ride. If you have kids then you may wish to split them up so you at least have someone in the car with you. Furthermore, make a plan to meet at certain rest stops and overnight areas together so that you can make the long drive as pleasant as possible.

If you would prefer to keep the family together another option you have is to drive one car down and put the other vehicle on a trailer. This is your best option if you have several miles to drive as it might be cheaper to pay for a moving trailer rather than spend the money on the fuel. If you do opt for this route you can make a road trip out of the drive down as you will all be together.

Flying to a New Location

A third option you have is to forget about driving at all and fly down to your new destination. Your vehicles can all be shipped down on a trailer and you will meet them at your new home. You will need to arrange a taxi service or a rental car to get you to your new home where your vehicles will be waiting. This is your best option if you don't have the time or the patience for a long drive to your new location. If you would prefer to just get there and start your new life in your new home then flying is the quickest way to get there.

The bad thing about flying and putting your vehicles on a trailer, however, is that you can expect higher moving costs. After all, you will need to pay for the plane tickets, the transfer to and from the air port as well as the vehicle trailer to move your cars to your new home. If you are on a tight budget then this option may not work for you.

Moving with multiple vehicles doesn't have to be a huge hassle. There are plenty of options you can choose from and plenty of ways to make it work for you. If you do decide to drive down, make a little vacation out of it by stopping along the way and checking out different sights. Or, if you are in a rush, take the easy but expensive route and fly to your new home in a matter of hours.
