SHARING THE COMMUNITY CENTER

Sharing the community center or business center in your rental complex is pretty easy as long as you obey the rules. It is important that you think of other people when you are booking parties and other social events. Most apartment complexes that have a community center will have 500 or more residents in the area which means you need to be considerate of all of these people as well.

Complex Community and Social Clubs

One of the reasons that rental complexes have community centers in the first place is to allow the renters to get to know one another. Every month or once every quarter the property management company might host an event for all the owners and renters of the complex to get together and have a bite to eat and something to drink. However, this is not always the case and usually only happens in complexes where there is enough people to form a community within the complex.

If your complex does host a community center night then this is a great way to get to know your neighbors and meet people that live in the complex. Having friends that live just down the road from you or just down the hall from you is extremely convenient for a number of different reasons. You don't have to drive several miles just to go to a friend's for dinner and you can indulge in a glass of wine or two without worrying about paying for a cab home. Furthermore, if you are ever in an emergency and need a quick babysitter, a friend in your complex can help you out.

Renting Out the Community Center

However, nights like this are not usually scheduled for every weekend and thus your property manager may rent out the community center for a small fee or for free in some instances. Your property manager may only rent it out to those in the complex or he may let other people rent out the area as well, depending on the size and status of the area. If the place is really nice then it might be a good venue for wedding receptions and other big parties. If not, then it might be suitable for smaller gatherings such as dinners and graduation parties.

There are several instances where you might want to rent out the community center in your apartment complex. If you are hosting a party, for example, then it might be best to have your guests meet in the community hall where several people can be accommodated while than in your little apartment on the third floor.

Things like baby showers, bachelorette parties, birthdays and even dinner parties can all be better organized and work a lot smoother if you have a larger space to work with. Of course, being able to use the community center in your complex for these things will depend on your property manager.

In general, before you plan any event where you want to use the community center as the venue, you will need to get permission from your landlord and make sure that it is not already booked out for the evening. This is all part of sharing the community center. It might be a good idea to limit your need to use the center for a party to one or two per year. Book with lots of time in advance and try to avoid busy times such as Christmases and summer vacations where you might find everyone is trying to book in a party.
