Having a gym in your rental complex can actually save you a lot of money each month that could go towards renters fire protection insurance. Most rental complexes will have only basic facilities but this is all you need to stay in shape. Most complex gyms will include basic facilities such as a bathroom and shower as well as a place to fill up your water bottle. Try to aim for 30 minutes of cardio, 15 minutes of weights and 15 minutes of relaxation time afterwards at least three times a week, if you can.

You may find that your gym is always full at certain times during the day. Many renters will use the free gym instead of paying a membership. Furthermore, during the colder winter months going to the gym is one of the only ways to stay in shape and stay warm. The busiest times for the gym are usually after work between 5 and 8:00pm. If you can, try to pick a time outside of these hours. Early morning exercise is also quite common and thus you may see the same regular gym buffs every morning from 5 to 8:00am as well.

Staying Motivated at the Gym

One of the biggest concerns for gym goers is keeping motivated and sticking to actually using the facilities. You can easily get bored of running on a treadmill day after day, even if you have music to motivate you. One option is to find a friend to work out with which can make the exercise more social. You may even find that you hardly realize how much you are sweating when you are also socializing and pushing one another to keep going day after day.

Switch up your routine as much as you can. Even if you have never used the row machine before, give it a try. You may find that it is actually a welcoming change. This is also true with weights, running and biking. Or, do a circuit where you do each machine for 5 minutes which can also cure your boredom. Just make sure you stick to cardio for 30 minutes at a time.

You can also maintain your fitness by venturing outside the gym. Do laps in the pool; go for a run or join a yoga class one day a week. Using the gym at your rental complex means you are saving a small fortune on gym membership fees so why not use this money to get involved in another sport or recreational activity to keep your motivated and fit?
